Finishing word search and completing a partner's word search during Word Study:
In Writer's Workshop students learned about different types of endings such as surprise, loop, sad but true, summary, and happy. Each group was then given a boring ending on chart paper, such as "We had fun" or "Then I fell asleep on the ride home." Groups were to use the handout on types of endings to revise the boring ending on chart paper.
Sharing endings:
In science, students had to first predict and then investigate what happens to water when large and small cylinders of various materials are submerged. Most students predicted that the large cylinders would displace more water than the small cylinders. Many students also thought that depending on the material the cylinder is made of would displace more water (ex. the aluminum cylinder would displace more water than the wood cylinder since it weighs more). In the end, the students learned that it doesn't matter what the object is made of, but the space the object takes up (all of the large cylinders displaced the same amount of water).
STUDENTS SHOULD BE STUDYING THEIR VOCABULARY FLASHCARDS (FOUND IN THE BACK OF THEIR SCIENCE NOTEBOOKS) THIS WEEK AT HOME. VOCABULARY QUIZ WILL BE ON FRIDAY.
In math, students have been taking timed multiplication quizzes. Many students need more practice at memorizing their multiplication facts. STUDENTS SHOULD BE STUDYING MATH FACTS AT HOME! They have triangle flashcards in their zip pouch in their STAR binder.
