During Word Study students partnered up with a buddy to complete Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check to practice their 5 Words to Learn words that will be assessed on their spelling test (THIS FRIDAY).

1. Each student writes their words in one column while being able to LOOK at their word list
2. Then the buddy SAYS each word with the list COVERED
3. The student WRITES each spelling word
4.  The buddy checks for correct spelling
5. Any misspelled words are then written in the third column.

During Reader's Workshop I modeled how to write a Thoughtful Reading Response.  Yesterday students had to write down two thoughts they had while I finished reading Mr. Peabody's Apples.  Today I showed students how to take 1-2 of their thoughts they record on post-it notes and write a Thoughtful Reading Response.  I modeled how I included the title (capitalized and underlined) and the date.  Next I showed how I indented each paragraph, and put the evidence from the book or text support in quotation marks.  The evidence in quotation marks DOES NOT have to be a direct quote from the book, but rather a way for students to make sure they are including what happened in the book.
After each response is written students have to circle YES or NO on a self-assessment before handing in their response.  This is make sure they've included everything we are looking for in a Thoughtful Reading Response.

In math we used a box of raisins to estimate how many raisins are in the box.  Next the raisins were counted for an exact amount and a class chart was formed. Finally we found the minimum, maximum, mean, range, and mode of our results.
