Public Speaking

This morning, while many students went to chorus rehearsal the rest of the class gathered on the carpet.  Today children shared their completed Book Butterfly with the class.  Students have been filling in this poster since they finished their literature discussion book.  While students shared their poster the teachers jotted down notes.  The notes included how loud the child read, tally marks to include how many times the words "um" and "like" were used, and whether or not they spoke with expression.  The class found it especially exciting to have their presentations recorded!  First Ms. Higgins used a tape recorder.  Remember those?

Well ... it didn't last long due to the poor sound quality.  So I found I could use voice memo on my phone and the sound quality was much better!

Unfortunately in order to get the wonderful sound quality my phone had to be rather close to each presenter...not sure they enjoyed that part as much!

Although in the end, they learned a lot about how they speak in public.  After each presentation Mrs. Bolton would give praises for loud voices or not using words such as "um."  She also gave each child 1-2 goals such as speak slower or make eye contact with the audience.
