Gifts, Cards, & Captions

Here is a sneak peak at the holiday gift your child has made for you!  In class each student wrapped their own gift.  I hope you all enjoy what they made!  You can also notice the lovely creative photographs by Jennie.  Currently her class job is being the paparazzi.

In Reader's Workshop, students learned that CATIONS help the reader better understand a picture or photograph.  Mrs. Bolton modeled how to find a caption and how it helped her understand the picture and text better.  Afterwards, students went off searching for their own example and recorded their thinking.

To introduce our new science unit on Animal Studies, students wrote down on post-it notes what they already know about millipedes, African Dwarf frogs, and fiddler crabs.  Let's just say they are all A LOT more excited than me to welcome these animals into our classroom. ;)

Yesterday, the class drafted their holiday card to go along with our Holiday Hope Chest project.  Before they began writing we had another discussion about why we are doing this project.  We talked about how fortunate we all are to have our health and to be able to spend our holiday at home with our families.  As I proofread through the letters last night, I couldn't help but be so proud of all the students.  Their letters really showed how much they care for these kids that they have never met before.

Our classroom has been taken over by shoeboxes, toys, and gift wrap.  Thank you all so much for your support. At our party this afternoon students will assemble the Hope Chests.  Stay tuned for pictures!
