More Nonfiction Features

In Reader's Workshop, we are continuing to learn about nonfiction features.  This week students learned about sidebars, insets, and photographs.  After each minilesson on the carpet students found an example of the feature in a nonfiction book in our classroom library.  Then they met in their small reading groups to read from the text and to find another example of the feature. Students recorded the examples they found and how it helped them understand the topic better.

Some students shared the inset they found from a book in our library.

Reviewing adjectives and adverbs with the Grammar Show.

Before taking the Lenape Indian quiz Jennie brought in an antler from a deer and talked about how the Indians used them to make things such as instruments!  Also Hunter shared with the class some of his Native American family history!
