Welcome to Our Class Blog!

Welcome to our class blog!  I hope you find this page to be both informative and entertaining.   I will try to update as often as possible, and hopefully soon I won't be the only one blogging on this site ;).

Sneak peek of classroom (more pictures to come!):

We started Writer's Workshop by studying a mentor text and "listening like writers".  Students listened to the story Saturdays and Teacakes and wrote down what they noticed about the author's writing style (ex. similes, onomatopoeia, personification).

During Math Workshop students rotate through three centers: Working with the Teacher, Math Pages, and Games.

In order to come up with this year's Class Promise students had to answer a series of questions on post-it notes:

1. What should kids in our class be doing to make sure our classroom runs as smooth a possible?
2. Our classroom should be _____ every day.
3. School is important because ________.
4. What is one of your overall goals for this year in fourth grade?
5. What will you need to do to achieve that goal?
6. Write one goal you have for yourself after you graduate from high school.
7. What will you need to do to achieve that goal?

Students then worked in groups to find some common answers.  Next they recorded their narrowed down responses onto their chart paper.   Lastly, I will take home the chart papers and write up this year's Class Promise.

Float or Sink?  For a homework assignment students had to bring in 5 small objects to test during science lab.  Before they could drop each object into a tank of water they had to record their predictions and write their reasoning behind each prediction.  Once they tested each object, they then recorded what actually happened and reflected on the results.  The following day small groups were given a bag of objects and had to follow the same routine of predicting, testing, and reflecting.
