School Uniforms?

A couple pictures from Liberty Science Center...

In Writer's Workshop, we put our new fiction stories on hold, in order to write a persuasive essay.  This was a task all fourth graders had to complete.  Their essays were not counted as a grade, but were looked at to see what the teachers needed to focus on.  In order to prepare the class, we practiced using the argument of school uniforms.  After reading two articles about the pros and cons of school uniforms, students took a side.  Then they filled out the OREO graphic organizer and began writing their 4-5 paragraph essay.  I provided students with a persuasive essay checklist and a list of transition words to include in their writing.

  1. I am planning the same persuasive essay topic with my 4th grade students. Can you share the articles on the pros and cons of school uniforms? Thanks.
