OREOs and Habitats

Don't you just LOOOOVE visiting our blog and being greeted by a millipede???

In science, groups observed how animals would respond to a change in their habitat. Groups were given one animal habitat at a time to observe.  For five minutes groups would shine a flashlight into the habitat and watch to see how the animals would react.  Prior to the observation students had to write in their notebooks their prediction and after the observation the results.

In math, students learned how to use ordered pairs to locate points on a map and to estimate distances on a map.  It was helpful to pull the math journal page on the Smart Board in order for students to check over their answers.

In Writer's Workshop, we are learning how to effectively write a persuasive essay.

Before beginning the essay students had to gain more background knowledge, examples, and facts.  They read two articles about the debate of school uniforms.  We read through each article to first determine the main idea and then went back to highlight all the supporting detail.  Afterwards, students decided if they were for or against school uniforms and then filled in the OREO graphic organizer.  Tomorrow we will begin drafting the essay.

Here are a few close-ups of our idioms that hang in the hall!
