Last Week

In Science, groups weighed cylinders of various materials.  Each object was weighed out of water, partially submerged in water, and completely submerged in water.  After graphing the results students learned that objects weigh less in water.  They will continue to explore why this is true.

In Writer's Workshop, students self and peer revised their narrative stories using a red pen.

In pairs students took turns listening to each other's story and jotting down questions or suggestions that writer's should clarify or add to their writing to make it better.

After students read a Time for Kids article about Hurricane Irene they completed the Vocabulary Organizer to help prepare them to write 3-5 sentence summary.  After noticing some students were struggling with pulling out just the important information from the article, the following day I modeled for students how I completed the Vocabulary Organizer.  With a colored pen they were able to revise their organizers before writing the summary.
