Animal Research

Our final writing unit will be nonfiction writing.  This will obviously be a very short unit, so we began right away this week.  Students picked an animal they wanted to research and gathered two nonfiction books to help them research.

Once they gathered two nonfiction books they began working in their research packet.  They had to skim the table of contents and index to infer where they could find information on the three areas of focus for this unit: habitat, diet, and defense mechanism.

In science, students completed another stream experiment.  This time the cup they poured water into had three holes.  They watched how the rushing water eroded the land and how the streams formed.

Once they finished they had to cover their container with plastic and label and draw the streams that formed.
