Busy Half Day!

Sure today was a half day, but it was busy!  This morning students finished taking a Midyear Math Assessment.  Once they have been checked over your child will bring it home for you to look over. The purpose of the assessment is to check students' math progress.

During Writing, we learned about compound sentences.

When students learned about simple sentences they wrote ten simple sentences in their notebooks.  Today they went back to those sentences and using a colored pen added on to them to make compound sentences.

Additionally, they were instructed to highlight the subjects in each sentence.  When beginning to highlight some discovered they only had one subject, therefore realizing it was not a compound sentence.  Students were able to revise any sentences before handing in their paper.

In Reading we are also learning about the different nonfiction text structures.  Today students learned about the text structure description.

Using the signal words to help identify the description structure, students read a passage and highlighted signal words.
